Um elektrisches Licht beobachtbar zu machen, verwendet Lichtenberg
zwei seiner eindruckstvollsten Instrumente, Luftpumpe
und Elektrisiermaschine: Das auch in der Natur vorkommende
physikalische Phänomen wird somit in einem Glaszylinder isoliert
dargestellt. Die Entladungsröhre ist die Urform der Leuchtstoffröhre.
Lichtenberg used two of his most impressive instruments, the air pump
and electrostatic generator, to make electric light visible. This physical
phenomenon, which also occurs in nature, can be presented in isolation
in a glass cylinder. The discharge tube is the original form of the
florescent tube.
