Die Sammellinse ist ein Mehrzweckinstrument: Sie vereinigt als Brennglas Sonnenstrahlen in einem Focus (dt. Herd), sie macht als Vergrößerungsglas kleine Strukturen sichtbar und kann als Leseglas Sehfehler korrigieren.
The converging lens is a multi-purpose instrument: As a burning lens, it concentrates solar rays in a focus (Engl. hearth); as a magnifying glass, it makes small structures visible, and as a reading glass it can correct defects of vision.
